Ngajeng yards are formed based on the division of residential land. The formation of the Ngajeng yard is based on tradition. The Ngajeng yard's use is determined by social, religious, traditional, and agricultural factors. The ngajeng yard is still preserved by the Kalang village's Javanese sub-ethnic group, the Kalang. The advantage of the ngajeng yard space as a path for the sun's movement is provided by the Limasap house, where the Kalang people reside, being oriented towards the North and South. Specifically, the objective of the ngajeng yard following the direction of the sun's movement will be covered in this research. The methods used are 1) ethnography, describing traditions related to the Ngajeng yard as well as religious aspects and beliefs of the Kalang people; 2) Analysis of the sun's movement in the East to West trajectory. The orientation of the traditional Limasap omah (house) building influences the existence of the ngajeng yard; 3) The next stage is looking for a belief system through ontology, explanation, prediction, axiology, practice, and epistemology approaches. At this stage, a belief system about the Ngajeng yard is obtained. Thus, it can be concluded that the Ngajeng yard is an open space that has various functions for the Kalang people. These functions are 1) Social function, as a communication, mitigation, and security space; 2) The function of tradition, as a space for the obong tradition to lead ancestors to nirvana; 3) Agricultural function, related to tandur (planting) traditions and harvest traditions. The belief system that is formed is a legacy of tradition related to the implementation of the wong (people) Kalang tradition.
Stefanus Prabani Setio, Heristama Anugerah Putra Copyright (c) 2024 Stefanus Prabani Setio, Heristama Anugerah Putra https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://journal.unwira.ac.id/index.php/ARTEKS/article/view/2208 Mon, 01 Apr 2024 00:00:00 +0700 Terrariums approach in cafe design on people’s eating behaviour https://journal.unwira.ac.id/index.php/ARTEKS/article/view/2492
Nature-inspired cafés have become a trend in modern interior design, promoting quality health and well-being for the customers. To encourage people to bring nature into the built environment, terrariums have taken up the interior space to improve the quality of life. Terrariums are one of the preferred indoor gardening options that only require an individual's creativity, with or without professional knowledge. However, the terrariums approach to interior spaces is still uncommon in Malaysia, and how the terrarium approach enhances people’s eating behaviour remains unexplored. With the emerging trend of Mossarium KL, the concept of terrariums is used as part of the interior design as well as positive factors that enhance people’s eating behaviour. This paper aims to study the terrariums approach in built environments and to review the enhancements of the terrarium on people’s eating behaviour. A case study had been done on the Mossarium KL in Petaling Jaya, Selangor that adapted the concept of a terrarium in the interior space. This study's conceptual framework is based on the idea of employing terrariums as an interior landscape for exploring their potential impact on individual eating habits. This study highlights the importance of incorporating nature-based interventions, such as terrarium cafes within interior spaces and providing valuable insights into people’s eating behaviours in the cafes.
Aisya Nadra Binti Ahmad Nizam, Roslan Talib Copyright (c) 2024 Aisya Nadra Binti Ahmad Nizam, Roslan Talib https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://journal.unwira.ac.id/index.php/ARTEKS/article/view/2492 Mon, 01 Apr 2024 00:00:00 +0700 Analyzing architectural and cultural elements of Masjid Jamek Sultan Ibrahim, Muar, Johor https://journal.unwira.ac.id/index.php/ARTEKS/article/view/2493
The Sultan Ibrahim Mosque serves as the Muar neighborhood’s ‘Jewel’ is situated conterminous to the Sultan of Johor’s Palace located by the Muar River. Choosing the right research methodology is essential to producing high-quality research. Research methodologies are employed to determine the best scientific strategy for testing hypotheses provided by a particular theory. Thus, selecting the right methodologies has a big impact on how well a research project turns out. However, because there is such an extensive variety of research methods accessible, researchers frequently have trouble deciding which one is best for their objectives. The objective of this study is to investigate the Delphi method, one of the methods that can be applied to architectural research. Experts on a particular topic are surveyed and their opinions are gathered using the Delphi technique. This research will explore several architectural research journals that have utilized the Delphi method, focusing on the methodology section of each study. Through this exploration, the reasons for employing the Delphi method in each research and its procedural implementation will be examined. The findings of this research can serve as a basis for consideration in selecting and appropriately utilizing the Delphi method in architectural research.
Arman Arisman, Iwan Sudradjat, Indah Widiastuti Copyright (c) 2024 Arman Arisman, Iwan Sudradjat, Indah Widiastuti https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://journal.unwira.ac.id/index.php/ARTEKS/article/view/2556 Mon, 01 Apr 2024 00:00:00 +0700 The meaning and change in the function of communal space in Lamin house https://journal.unwira.ac.id/index.php/ARTEKS/article/view/2569
In the modern era, many traditional houses have changed to functional spaces, as stated in several journals, including the Lamin house in East Kalimantan. The changes in spaces of traditional houses are caused by factors such as modernization, the economy, society, and others. Lamin houses, which have communal spaces with activities, have also shown indications of changes in functions. Therefore, the research purpose is to identify the changes in functions and their contributing factors, as well as to explore the meanings behind these functions. This research utilized a qualitative descriptive method with a phenomenological approach. Data collection techniques involved in-depth interviews and observations. The research findings indicate a shift in the functions of Lamin houses, which has an impact on the meaning of space and the addition of functions, accompanied by the meaning of behavior that maintains cultural aspects and encourages the economic sector. The factor causing the change is that the communal space has increased its tourism function. It is hoped that the results of this research will become the basis for maintaining the sustainability of the Lamin house as local architectural wisdom.
Abdul Mufti Radja, Afifah Harisah, Mohammad Mochsen Sir, Faizal Baharuddin Copyright (c) 2024 Abdul Mufti Radja, Afifah Harisah, Mohammad Mochsen Sir, Faizal Baharuddin https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://journal.unwira.ac.id/index.php/ARTEKS/article/view/2569 Mon, 01 Apr 2024 00:00:00 +0700 Prediction of potential deviations in settlement area space patterns based on cellular Automata in Mapanget District, Manado City https://journal.unwira.ac.id/index.php/ARTEKS/article/view/2655
Mapanget District is one of the administrative parts of Manado City which has service functions, namely housing and new settlements, tourism, and trade and services. To forecast land development over 20 years, from 2022 to 2042, this study will employ spatial analysis based on the Geography Information System-Cellular Automata and weighting analysis using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) technique to analyze potential deviations in the spatial pattern development of Manado City settlements, particularly Mapanget District. The software used for this research's simulation procedure is LanduseSim 2.3.1, QGIS, and Archmap 10.8. According to the projection results, residential land use will vary during the following 20 years, starting in 1956.75 Ha, or a 201% increase, resulting from the most important driving factor, which is closeness to existing towns. 1106.79 Ha is the possible deviation depending on the direction of the spatial pattern plan for residential structures. It is advised to plan tall buildings, particularly for settlements, as the current residential land in Mapanget District exceeds both the carrying capacity and the land capacity as of 2042, according to the prediction results.
Rieneke Lusia Evani Sela, Andy Anton Mangopa Malik, Sonny Tilaar, Nadira Astuti Lestari Copyright (c) 2024 Rieneke Lusia Evani Sela, Andy Anton Mangopa Malik, Sonny Tilaar, Nadira Astuti Lestari https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://journal.unwira.ac.id/index.php/ARTEKS/article/view/2655 Mon, 01 Apr 2024 21:02:15 +0700 Physical systems - Balinese cultural meaning in Three Monkeys Restaurant architecture in Sanur Bali https://journal.unwira.ac.id/index.php/ARTEKS/article/view/2715
Bali's Sanur tourism sector is home to many well-known structures with unique, non-Balinese architectural styles. This paper aims to expose the Balinese physical-meaning system found in the Three Monkeys restaurant's architecture in Sanur. The approach is descriptive; first, the "physical" architecture is explained, followed by the "purpose of existence" and "essence." Open frontage, bottom level raised over the terrace, and an alang-alang roof supported by bamboo poles. There is an open figure to the left and north, with bamboo trees around it and a glass-block wall atop. a blend of Balinese traditional and modern architecture. The arrangement: an open pool acts as a mediator between the dining room, kitchen, and bathroom; the terrace is shaded by frangipani trees, and there is a place of prayer in the northeast corner. The upper rooms are conditioned, enclosed by glass walls, modern compared to the lower rooms. The terrace materials are traditional (alang-alang roof, parasol stone wall - bamboo), the lower dining room is a mix of traditional (bamboo wall, alang-alang roof, wooden furniture) and modern (polished concrete floor, glass-block wall), and the upper room is modern (frameless glass wall, stainless-steel railing). The traditional-modern Balinese blend is displayed through the building's figure, layout and materials.
Alwin Suryono Sombu, Ryadi Adityavarman, John Petrus Talan Copyright (c) 2024 Alwin Suryono Sombu, Ryadi Adityavarman, John Petrus Talan https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://journal.unwira.ac.id/index.php/ARTEKS/article/view/2715 Mon, 01 Apr 2024 00:00:00 +0700 The genomic tabulation of Kampung Tambora’s massing series https://journal.unwira.ac.id/index.php/ARTEKS/article/view/2778
Well known as one of the most crowded and problematic urban kampungs in ASEAN since 2020, Tambora has been struggle with health, fire, and social problems. Its density is related to the composition between solid and void especially on the boundary as they control the accessibility while influencing the overall gesture of the kampung. Unfortunately, the majority of research related to boundaries is more interested in delineation rather than 3D relationships. Further investigation is required to understand its series of volumetric composition, configuration, and orientation to comprehend its architecture as a continuation of its geometrical investigation. As boundaries are relatively considered more stable locations, they exhibit intensity, complexity, and hybridity between formal and informal. A diverse collection of houses at these particular locations displays specific language while providing correlation. Genomic tabulation is utilized to interpret the kampung massing series' spatial quality. The QGIS instrument converts lines into volumes, with steps are follows: 1) collection of data, 2) conversion of 2D into 3D, and 3) interpretation of the samples. By focusing on the massing series at the kampung boundaries, the typology and morphology are emerged, providing various gaps and potentials as alternative solutions for building the kampung network.
Denny Husin, Olga Nauli Komala Copyright (c) 2024 Denny Husin, Olga Nauli Komala https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://journal.unwira.ac.id/index.php/ARTEKS/article/view/2778 Mon, 01 Apr 2024 00:00:00 +0700 The integration of urban fabric potential in the development of Mangiran Market to Fulfil the Indonesian traditional market standard project https://journal.unwira.ac.id/index.php/ARTEKS/article/view/2789
The revitalisation of traditional market was prioritized by the Indonesian government to protect the unique socio-cultural space. However, only a few have been able to comply with this high standard required. One of the distinct traditional markets without the capacity to fulfil the standards is Mangiran because of the limitations of the area. Therefore, this research investigated an alternative approach to integrate the urban fabric potential into the Mangiran market for the purpose of fulfilling the required standards. The approach was sued to review the national standard in order to have a new perspective and interpretation of traditional markets. The review was further assessed by collecting and analysing primary and secondary data using a qualitative method. Insufficient research has been conducted concerning this mosque-turned-building, particularly regarding how it may help the country accomplish its environmental commitments. The Istiqlal mosque received a green building assessment certificate (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiency) from the International Finance Corporation in April 2022. This certificate should serve as a foundation for future research into the distinctive features of mosque building designs in Indonesia and their potential to contribute to accomplishing national environmental targets. Mosque buildings as an embodiment of the concept of Rahmatan Lil Alamin or mercy for all of nature should be in line with the concept of green buildings which strive to preserve nature. This research aims to determine the challenges of implementing the green building concept in mosque buildings with a case study of two mosques in the city of Bandung. To identify their traits, this study employed observational methods, case studies, and interviews with mosque managers. The Minister of Public Works Regulation Number 21 of 2021 about Green Building Performance Assessment will be employed to examine and assess the gathered data. The outcomes demonstrate that the low-performance value persists. Considerable work is required to achieve the desired results. In-depth talks with stakeholders are also required to map the distinctive qualities of mosque structures and identify methods in which they can support the realization of national environmental preservation objectives while also exemplifying the principles of Rahmatan lil Alamin.
Sahid Mochtar, Anindhita Nugroho Sunartio, Aldyfra Luhulima Lukman, Indri Astrina Indrarani Wirakusumah, Adam Ramadhan, Klarissa Lazuardi, Cheryl Angeline Copyright (c) 2024 Sahid Mochtar, Anindhita Nugroho Sunartio, Aldyfra Luhulima Lukman, Indri Astrina Indrarani Wirakusumah, Adam Ramadhan, Klarissa Lazuardi, Cheryl Angeline https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://journal.unwira.ac.id/index.php/ARTEKS/article/view/2956 Mon, 01 Apr 2024 00:00:00 +0700 Re-interpreting the case study approach in architectural research https://journal.unwira.ac.id/index.php/ARTEKS/article/view/3195
The case study is a research approach carried out in a natural, holistic, and in-depth setting about a unique, best practice, and bounded phenomenon. Even though it was rooted in social sciences, the case study has characteristics that are almost the same as a process of studying past architectural works (precedent studies) that have long been carried out in architecture. Unfortunately, precedent studies are sometimes only limited to documentation and descriptions of architectural works as physical objects, without critical, in-depth and holistic analysis of the decisions behind the design decisions of a precedent. On the other hand, previous research that discussed the case study approach in architecture tended to understand this approach as just a social research method that was simply applied in architectural research. Therefore, it is crucial to understand the terms of the 'case' itself. This research aims to provide a complete and in-depth understanding of the case study approach, to filter and elaborate this approach for architectural research. This research examines and elaborates on credible and recent literature on case study, both in social and architectural research. The adoption of the "new normal" during the COVID-19 epidemic led to the emergence of the road trip and micro tourism trends, in which travelers mostly select nearby locations that are accessible by private vehicle. Local visitors play a critical role in fostering the expansion of tourism in many locations. As a possible travel destination in Indonesia, Garut continues to attempt to diversify travel experiences by emphasizing amenities, accessibility, and attractions (3A). The tourist destination Silamci in Garut demonstrates how private ownership may have a big impact on an organization's ability to supply funding, infrastructure, and personnel as well as raise the standard of expert management. The objective of this study is to employ SWOT analysis to evaluate the state of the facilities as they stand and to identify areas for development. Through the results of field observations, interviews, questionnaire distribution, and comparison studies of related research items, qualitative methodologies were employed in the study. It was determined that enhancing the variety of facilities offered frequently constitutes the primary goal of Silamci's innovation development strategy. It is envisaged that enhancing the facilities' quality will serve as the cornerstone for raising Silamci's different values.
Mentari Sucia, Riska Belasunda Copyright (c) 2024 Mentari Sucia, Riska Belasunda https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://journal.unwira.ac.id/index.php/ARTEKS/article/view/3276 Mon, 01 Apr 2024 00:00:00 +0700 Disaster evacuation challenges in high-density urban neighborhood Kampung Code, Yogyakarta https://journal.unwira.ac.id/index.php/ARTEKS/article/view/3281
The article discusses the challenges of disaster evacuation in the high-density urban neighborhood of Kampung Code in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
