Abstrak

Tulisan ini bertujuan menjelaskan keterkaitan dan pengaruh konfigurasi spasial gated community dengan segregasi sosial. Konfigurasi spasial adalah bagaimana elemen-elemen spasial disusun dan diorganisir untuk mewadahi aktifitas pengguna. Meskipun sejumlah peneliti telah membuktikan bahwa pembangunan gated community cenderung mendorong segregasi sosial, tidak banyak penelitian yang menjelaskan bagaimana konfigurasi spasial tersebut mempengaruhi segregasi sosial. Juga, belum banyak penelitian yang menjelaskan elemen spasial apa yang paling mempengaruhi segregasi. Tulisan ini membahas relasi antara konfigurasi spasial dengan segregasi sosial melalui pengoperasian aplikasi Space Syntax khususnya DepthmapX. Tiga elemen spasial yang diduga mempengaruhi segregasi dipilih menjadi variabel yaitu jalan masuk, batas dan ruang publik. Tingkat segregasi dijelaskan oleh nilai integrasi pada peta aksial yang dihasilkan DepthmapX. Semakin tinggi nilai integrasi berarti semakin rendah tingkat segregasi. Satu gated community di Surabaya, Indonesia, yaitu Citraland, dipilih sebagai studi kasus. Tulisan ini menyimpulkan konfigurasi spasial terbuka cenderung mengurangi segregasi. Elemen batas mempengaruhi tingkat segregasi dalam skala global sedangkan elemen jalan masuk mempengaruhi tingkat segregasi dalam skala lokal.
