Di Bali, arsitektur dianggap hanya mengalami sedikit perubahan. Namun diduga sebagai produk buatan manusia, pulau ini telah mengalami modifikasi signifikan sejak abad ke-19, ketika mulai dianeksasi oleh pemerintah Kolonial Belanda dan memasuki jalur perdagangan dunia. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menelusuri kemunculan dan perkembangan arsitektur kontemporer di Bali dari waktu ke waktu untuk memahami elemen-elemen yang berdampak terhadap perubahannya. Pendekatan sejarah kritis diterapkan untuk menemukan pengetahuan masa lalu dengan menggabungkan data dari berbagai sumber. Studi arsip, survei bangunan dan konsultasi pemangku kepentingan merupakan bagian dari penelitian sejarah yang diterapkan. Materi yang diperoleh kemudian dibahas dengan menggunakan analisis sinkronis dan diakronis untuk menghasilkan kajian yang lebih mendalam. Temuan penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa taktik pertumbuhan politik dan ekonomi berbagai pemerintahan berkontribusi signifikan terhadap perubahan arsitektur Bali. Keterpaparan koloni ini pada dunia internasional pada paruh kedua abad kesembilan belas mempengaruhi investasi di pulau Bali. Di satu sisi, ledakan ekonomi di pulau ini telah mendorong diperkenalkannya arsitektur modern. Di sisi lain, munculnya tipologi konstruksi baru yang tidak selalu mengikuti tradisi telah meningkatkan kesadaran bahwa sektor ini memerlukan regulasi. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa arsitektur di Bali telah mengalami perkembangan yang signifikan, terutama karena harus beradaptasi dengan transformasi sosial budaya dan ekonomi baru. Hal ini memberi kontribusi bagi pemahaman bahwa arsitektur selalu dalam keadaan berubah tak terkecuali di Bali sehingga wacana keajegan harus dipahami dengan pandangan yang lebih kritis.
