Pola spasial terbentuk karena faktor vernakularisme. Banyak faktor vernakularisme dibahas dalam penelitian kawasan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif yang menggabungkan metode interview, observasi dan dokumentasi. Penelitian menggunakan studi kasus pada 33 rumah tinggal pada Dusun Karangtengah, Batur, Banjarnegara. Kriteria obyek penelitian adalah rumah tinggal yang mempunyai perapian. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan kaitan antara pawon pada rumah-rumah di Dusun Karangtengah dipengaruhi oleh kekerabatan pada rumah-rumah tersebut. Strategi sistem kekerabatan pada pola spasial bisa digunakan untuk desain pemukiman yang difungsikan untuk mengurangi migrasi dari desa ke kota.
