Studi kasus merupakan pendekatan penelitian yang memanfaatkan satu atau beberapa kasus dari kehidupan nyata sebagai objek kajian, baik dalam bentuk entitas konkret seperti individu, grup, atau organisasi, maupun konstruk abstrak seperti proses, jaringan, atau proyek. Pendekatan ini digunakan untuk menyelidiki isu-isu kompleks dengan mendalam, dan telah diterapkan dalam berbagai disiplin ilmu, seperti; sosial, humaniora, manajemen, psikologi, dan arsitektur. Karakteristik khusus studi kasus melibatkan eksplorasi dan analisis mendalam, pengumpulan data dari berbagai sumber, serta identifikasi tema-tema utama dalam kasus. Keunggulan studi kasus terletak pada kemampuannya untuk menggabungkan data kuantitatif dan kualitatif, sehingga memungkinkan peneliti untuk mendapatkan pemahaman yang mendalam tentang proses dan hasil dari suatu fenomena. Studi ini menerapkan tinjauan studi pustaka sistematis dari beberapa artikel ilmiah yang kredibel. Dua penelitian studi kasus di bidang arsitektur diambil sebagai preseden untuk memberikan gambaran konkret karakteristik, keunggulan, kelemahan, serta prosedur kerja penerapan pendekatan studi kasus. Analisis dilakukan dengan mengkomparasi berbagai data yang terhimpun untuk melihat potensi di mana studi kasus dapat berkontribusi pada pemahaman yang mendalam tentang kompleksitas permasalahan dan pencarian solusinya.
